The trail crew welcomes members who appreciate seeing reward for their effort and enjoy good camaraderie during the evenings. Work includes clearing trails and correcting drainage problems in the Wilderness areas of the Canyon Lakes Ranger District. Most of the work is done during two 4-day weekends in June with camping at Sleeping Elephant or Jacks Gulch Campground. The third outing is a 5-day backpacking trip in the Rawahs usually the weekend after the July 4th Holiday. The work is quite strenuous with hiking between 5 and 12 miles per day. The trail crew has cleared between 300 to 500 trees per year from trails in the Rawahs and Comanche Peak Wilderness areas during the past several years and last year, built bridges. Participation in Trail Crew counts toward the 6-patrol expectation.
